The American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program, Inc. (NVOP) is a duly
chartered non-profit corporation, designated by the Internal Revenue Service as
a charitable organization under section 501 (c) 3 of the IRS code.
It is imperative for Donors to feel secure that their investment in community work
is actually used effectively and for the intended purpose. The American GI Forum
NVOP, with more than 40 years of community service, has a glittering record of performance,
fiscal responsibility, and public accountability. The NVOP is audited annually by
an independent CPA firm, and it is very proud of the fact that in 40 years the organization
has not had one cent of disallowed costs. The organization has vested oversight
in its Board of Directors composed of volunteer members of the community and elected
officers of a Congressionally Chartered veterans’ organization.
Donors are welcome to support any of the following service components or make general
donation:
Veterans Service Center
The “hub operation” that serves approximately 1,000 new veterans each year with
case management, counseling, job training, job placement, emergency food bank, short-term
emergency housing for veterans and their families, and an array of support services
for veterans in need that include emergency utility assistance, gas vouchers, bus passes, work tools, safety equipment, or other special needs for a new job placement.
Residential Center for (Homeless) Veterans
A national model facility with 80 transitional beds for short term stays, and 60
apartments for longer-term housing. This safe and secure housing also transforms
lives through substance abuse counseling, work therapy programs, basic skills upgrade,
counseling and case management, and community reintegration for the former homeless
veterans. Donations are vital to support the huge food bills incurred in serving
three meals daily 365 days a year, transportation expenses for the prevalent medical
and dental needs of the homeless veterans, hygiene supplies and interior clothing
needs, replacement linens and towels, and many other special needs for these challenged
clients.
Veterans Day Stand-Down
The one-day event coordinates over 50 community agencies that provide medical and
dental services, hot food, winter clothing, medical exams, flu shots, haircuts, a variety of supplies and information, and entertainment
throughout the day to help veterans still living in the streets. The event serves
approximately 900-1000 veterans and their families annually, and eventually leads many of them to service
providers that can eventually work them back into self-sufficiency.
