Edith’s Story

Edith served in the United States Army for 12 years before moving to San Antonio, Texas. After her move, Edith faced many challenges, including struggling to find the right employment and suitable housing that was affordable and near good job opportunities. She was forced to live in her vehicle and had nowhere to turn.

Edith began to do some research and learned about the American GI Forum’s Rapid Rehousing (RRH) program, a service which offers short-term rental assistance for homeless veterans and their families in San Antonio. Edith soon met with Isaac, RRH Case Manager, and was presented with multiple housing options that were best suited to her needs. Isaac not only helped Edith with coordinating housing but he also helped her to begin the job search and interview process. After just a few weeks of working together, Isaac was able to connect Edith to one of San Antonio’s largest school districts where she is now earning a steady income that allows her to maintain her housing without any assistance.

“The housing services provided at the American GI Forum were a major part of turning my life around. I will recommend and let every veteran know about this wonderful program,” Edith stated.
