San Antonio, Texas – On Thursday, September 12, the American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) received a $5,000 donation from the Alamo Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) to support its new San Antonio Veteran Food Pantry.
The food pantry provides free, non-perishable food items for veterans who are experiencing homelessness, unemployment, or other crisis situations. More than 50% of NVOP clients report that they are experiencing food insecurity and do not have access to healthy meals.
“More than half of the 1,000 or so veterans who walk through our doors each year come in with just the shirt on their back,” said Carlos Martinez, President and CEO of the American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program. “It is impossible for anyone to focus on getting back on their feet with an empty stomach, let alone work on securing a job or a home. That is why we are deeply grateful to Alamo AFCEA for this incredible contribution to feed the veterans and families we serve at the NVOP. AFCEA continues to be an incredible champion for the men and women who wore our nation’s uniform and we are honored to have their support.”
