Healthy Minds, Healthy Heroes

Military City's Veteran and Family & Mental Health Movement

Program Mission

Healthy Minds, Healthy Heroes was established by the American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) in 2019 to offer outpatient counseling services to the San Antonio veteran community and provide support and help to veterans and their families who are experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, and a variety of other behavioral health related conditions.

The NVOP is often the first stop where veterans seek stable housing, meaningful employment, and/or other supportive services through the organization’s federal, state, and private grant programs. While the NVOP has been able to successfully tackle the housing and employment needs of veterans for more than four decades, the organization has recognized a substantial unmet need for accessible mental health care for veterans and their families in San Antonio and Bexar County. This program will seek to address this gap in services by offering a variety of evidence–based services and treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Couples and Family Therapy. All services are free of cost and open to all veterans who are living in Atascosa, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Medina, and Wilson counties.
